Wisconsin Has It’s Day In Court
October 3, 2017 the Supreme Court of the United States will hear a challenge to Wisconsin’s 2011 redrawing (gerrymandering) of our State Legislative districts. As a result, in the 2012 election the Republican won a super majority in the state assembly while losing the popular vote. Gerrymandering is an egregious abuse of power violating the constitutional right of equal protection and free expression.
Canvassing Results September 16-17
Here are some thoughts from one of our canvassers from our September canvas!
Canvass data: We had a very successful canvass. The unofficial data that I collected from our canvassers (Canvass Tally Sheets) is:
- 255 doors knocked. We didn’t meet our 350 goal, but that’s OK; READ ON!
- 6 Canvassers
- 7 turfs
- 0 flake rate (no shows) AWESOME!
- 75 contacts
- 29% contact rate VERY HIGH
For me personally, it was one of the most POSITIVE canvasses I have done since the 2012 campaign. I did my immediate Elderberry neighborhood. EVEN got into an inaccessible condo building and no one questioned me. I had a 34% contact rate with lots of interest. People were engaging, wanted to talk and agreed it was important to be involved. Everyone appreciated our handout with my name, website (I hand wrote) and e-mail address. My plan is to follow up early Oct. with an informal info/ dessert gathering inviting those I talked to. If any of you know of any neighbors or have contacts of people that are interested I encourage you to invite them as well once I/we fine tune the details. Stay tuned.
Our next canvas is November 4th, sign up by emailing teamgoldwi@gmail.com
Team Gold Aug 19 Day of Action: Canvass and cook out
We held a canvassing event August 19th. We had six canvassers and hit 158 doors. We held a cookout afterwards and had a guest from Tammy Baldwin’s office!
You can join us for our next canvassing event this weekend, September 16th. Email us at teamgoldwi@gmail.com to let us know you’re coming.
Who We Are and What We Do
Team Gold is a west Madison neighborhood Volunteer group that engages in community activities to create public interest regarding issues that directly impact the quality of life, locally, state wide and nationally. We also organize in our neighborhood in support of Democratic candidates for office on the local, state and national level.
Team Gold was founded in 2008 as one of the original Organizing for Obama grassroots teams in Dane County. We are now one of 24 Neighborhood Action Teams in Dane County. We work year-round to promote progressive values and elect Democratic candidates. As experienced volunteers, we’ll gladly provide the training and support you need to be an effective canvasser. If you prefer not to canvass, please let us know what you are interested in doing by filling out this brief survey. There are many other ways you can volunteer and make a difference. Please join us!
